About Pivot Objects
I design and build things because I enjoy the process. Most pieces begin as sketches or digital studies — CAD layouts, quick 3D prints, small prototypes to test proportion and movement. When an idea feels solid, I turn it into a finished piece. If it earns its place, I make a few more. Never many.
Pivot Objects is a working record of those builds. It’s a place to share the experiments, the materials, and the small decisions that shape an object’s character. Some components are made here in the shop. Others are produced by vendors with capabilities I don’t have — local fabricators, specialty shops, and, at times, overseas manufacturers. All design work stays in-house, and every piece is assembled, finished, and checked here.
The approach is straightforward: honest construction, clear intent, and parts that do only what they need to do. I combine traditional fabrication with digital tools — CAD modeling, 3D printing, custom fixtures — alongside repurposed components when they solve a problem better than a fresh part. The mix of methods keeps the work flexible and the ideas sharp.
Everything is produced in small quantities. Sometimes a handful. Sometimes only one. When a piece is gone, it’s gone. New work appears when the process leads somewhere worth sharing.
If you appreciate thoughtful objects, built with care and at a quiet pace, I’m glad you’re here.
